Soviet spacecraft Soyuz 9, carrying cosmonauts Andrian Nikolayev and Vitali Sevastyanov, lands in Kazakstan, establishing the record for longest ever manned space flight at 17 days, 16 hours, 59 minutes. During the flight, the spacemen played chess against ground control via radio.
